We get a thrill out of being the first to see something invisible to others.

Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
We’re simple and clear, not complicated or confusing. We work with people we believe in, and who believe in us. We’re for the measured risk takers, the ambitious and those with a vision.
And we have relentlessly high standards.
“Incredibly good tax technical skills, combined with the ability to think outside the box. They help bring organisation to what we’re doing with clear mapped out plans, and they help us see it through to the end.”
John Dewar, Jamie Oliver Group
The core team
David Marcussen
David bailed out from the Big Four in his 20s when he realised he wasn’t looking forward to the career ahead of him. On a whim he moved west from London and established his own consultancy, taking on clients with interesting ideas. The consultancy grew very nicely but in recent years David started wondering whether more was really better. He began stripping the business back to its core. At the same time he started taking a deeper look inside himself. However, he is still very keen on driving cars fast round racetracks which, paradoxically, he finds very peaceful: a state of pure flow. When work goes well, something similar occurs.
Georgie Heal
Georgie’s tax career started in KPMG and has moved fast since then. It was when she worked at a large regional business for highly entrepreneurial clients that she realised what interested her most. She loves challenging, fast moving situations where there is no obvious answer. At Marcussen she has helped David refocus the business on what Marcussen does best. She has also refocused herself and discovered what excites her: letting go, taking the lid off, exploring the possibilities. Imagination isn’t usually thought of as important in tax consultancy, but it is in Georgie’s work.
James Clothier
James began his career as a general accountant, but unlike most of his colleagues was drawn to the unpredictability and creativity of the tax side. He loves a complex tax challenge. He is a mathematician by academic training and it shows in his powerful problem solving attitude. But he doesn’t get tied down in the detail. He sees the bigger, longer term picture too. As a key member of Marcussen’s core team, he provides a meticulous eye for the things others don’t see.

“As a founder working with VCs for the first time with quite complex options, Marcussen are a comfort blanket – reassurance that we’re doing things the right way, the optimal way for everyone involved.”
