I realised from an early age that you cannot learn everything from a book…. and even in a profession which relies heavily on technical reading, my greatest teachings have come from the others around me.

I grew up on a farm in the rural South West and loved every second of it as a child but as a young adult I knew I had to expand my horizons outside of this comfortable zone. I moved to London to study Biology at Imperial College and after graduating, decided to train as a tax advisor.

I enrolled with KPMG’s tax school and qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant in 2012. In the early stages of my career my priority was gaining a breadth of experience across the taxes, industries and sectors.

I joined Marcussen in 2015 to be part of a small team, where I felt I could make a difference. For a while I was just learning as much as I could but then I started to think deeply about why we do what we do.

First I focused on the concept of a team - I knew that the value we could deliver as a high performing collective was so much greater than our contribution as individuals. Then I really started to analyse Marcussen as a business, to identify what brought it to life, both for its internal team and for clients.  It became evident to me that the entrepreneurial spirit was at the heart of our business.

Having grown up with an entrepreneur, working closely with others who fit that archetype felt very familiar to me. At Marcussen, we immerse ourselves in their world and there is a melding of minds. I want Marcussen to be remembered for certain achievements; above all the way we work with people. Staying true to this is crucial for me.
